Eric Heukeshoven based on Pslam 150 for SATB Choir with Vibraphone, Drum/Crash Cymbols, Acoustic Guitar, "Improvised Instruments," Dancer(s), Congregational Singing with optional Organ or Piano Accompaniment. Psalm 150 Praise the Lord! Praise him in his sanctuary; Praise him in his mighty heaven! Praise him for his mighty deeds; Praise him for his magnificent greatness! Praise him with the blast of horns; Praise him with soft and strumming strings! Praise him with drums and dance; Praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with clanging cymbals; Praise him with loud clashing cymbals! Let everything that breathes praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! CONGREGATIONAL INSTRUMENTS: It is up to the imagination of each congregation to define their own collection of “Instruments” - Eg. Horns: Kazoos (homemade or commercial), Toy Trumpets, Conch Shells Drums: Zippers, Tap Shoes, PVC pipe, homemade shakers, mixing bowls Strings: Cigar box guitar, stretched yarn or rubber bands Pipes: Train whistle, Slide whistle, Recorder, milk jugs, bottles Cymbals: Pie pans, Garbage can lids, Paint can lids At each section where the “Horns,” “Drums,” “Strings” and “Pipes” are indicated to play, sample parts for common instruments are provided. These parts should be played rhythmically but neither starting together nor in the same tempo. Acoustic guitar: beginning at measure 42 may play the chords as notated or strum simple chords as indicated by the guitar frames above each measure. The cue for Dancer(s) at measure 54 is also open to interpretation. A single dancer or dancers may perform to the beat of the written drum part. The dancer(s) may also play one of the “Drums” if desired. At measure 83 all “Instruments” refers to the “Horns,” “Drums,” “Strings,” “Pipes,” “Cymbals” and guitar who have all played up to this point. Dancer(s) may also rejoin the group at this point. The choir and vibraphone should rest to focus the attention on the other performers. Congregations may substitute a version of the “Doxology” that they are most familiar with. Again, the goal of this composition to have as many as possible praise the Lord! Organ or piano accompaniment of the “Doxology” should, therefore, reflect the chosen setting. Faith Partners is underwritten by the American Composers Forum with funds provided by The Otto Bremer Foundation. Premiered by English Lutheran Church and First Congregational United Church of Christ under the direction of Amy Hanson and Nancy Allen.
