The well-known prayer Ave Maria" has been set to music many times in various stylistic periods in the form of an extra-liturgical chant. Leos Janacek conceived his work dating from 1904 in its original version in a two-part form for tenor and mixed choir with a simple and restrained accompaniment by violin and organ. The second version of the Ave Maria", presented in this edition, is scored for tenor or soprano and choir ad libitum, accompanied by violin and piano or organ. The composition is dominated by impassioned solo voice singing which is supplemented at the end of each part by an Amen" sung by the choir.
