The lyrical opening melody will inspire audiences with its sheer beauty. Moves to double time with the soloist giving way to a great sax soli. Ends up with the band back in the original tempo. Alto soloist takes it out with an open-ended cadenza. The orchestration is lush yet clear and serves up a wide palette of color with the doubles -- 5 4 4 (Tuba part) 4 (Alto 2 doubles on clarinet or optional oboe. Tenor 1 doubles on flute, tenor 2 on clarinet. Bari doubles on bass clarinet.. Trumpets optional on Flugelhorns)
