The Irish Tune is originally from The Petrie Collection of the Ancient Music of Ireland (Dublin, 1855), and is perhaps Grainger's most popular work to have been transcribed for band.

Shepherd's Hey is one of the best known and most often performed early folk song "settings," for band. When it was written, it was dedicated to Edward Grieg, one of Grainger's friends and mentors, who died in 1907.
