Finally, Slide Hampton's incredible music is in print. This wonderful chart was written for the Maynard Ferguson Dream Band. This may well be one of the most beautiful big band arrangements ever created. The spiritual is set in a very respectful, gorgeous way, keeping the integrity of the piece intact while letting the "big band" speak as well. There are no improvised solos. There are only 2 measures of high trumpet playing required. This is surely one of the iconic charts in the history of big band arranging.
