The text for Ferry Me Across the Water is the well-known poem by nineteenth century poet Christina Rossetti. It was first published in 1872 in a volume called Sing-Song.

Although predominantly set in 7/8 meter, the melodic line is composed with the voices of young children in mind. It should be sung with a free vocal style and care should be taken to maintain a beautiful smooth legato over the larger intervals. The drama and characterizations within the text are most important.
