Following the same format as Heroes and Vagabonds, Traveling On consists of 10 10 songs for the male changing voice. Two of the songs are for young boy altos, four are for new young tenors with G or F as the bottom of their range, and four songs are for emerging baritones, with E, D or C as the bottom of their range. Ruth Elaine uses lots of variety in her selection of songs. Several are arrangements of spirituals and folksongs; others are original. Some are slow and sustained, while others are upbeat and fast.
Traveling On is ideal for use in middle school or the beginning years of high school.
