This Beach/Shutack collaboration consists of four easy concert-worthy charts designed to facilitate the teaching of improvisation in a group setting. Parts are provided for full jazz ensemble instrumentation with optional Flute, Clarinet, and French Horn parts. Each chart is playable with as few as three Horns and Rhythm Section. All this plus conservative ranges make these charts suitable for a first concert.

An improvisation workshop is presented with each piece as an aid to learning the solo section of that particular piece. The workshop addresses each key used in the piece, along with patterns that will help navigate the solo section. A CD accompanies each set that contains three tracks for each chart: (1) Full Performance · (2) Full Ensemble Version with Solo deleted for play-along purposes · (3) Rhythm Section only for Ensemble and/or Rhythm Section practice.
