Essential Latin Styles for the Drumset is a unique book which gives a concise, yet thorough examination of the various latin styles common to the United States. It is oriented toward the jazz, jobbing, high school, or college drumset player who is in need of a study that gets right to the point with a logical presentation of these styles. Careful attention is given to presenting the styles in such a way as to eliminate confusion and build confidence in playing each style in an appropriate and authentic manner. Styles included in the book include mambo, samba, cha-cha-cha, bossa nova, bembe, partido alto, songo, baiao, bolero, merengue, mozambique, rhumba, and afoxe. The styles are organized according to their origin--Cuban and Salsa styles are found in the first section; Brazilian styles are found in the second. There is also a section for bass and chordal instruments in order to give the entire rhythm section the cohesiveness that a good understanding of the styles provides. An extensive glossary of terms is provided at the end of the book.
Includes instructions for accessing mp3 sound files demonstrating various rhythms and concepts in the book. The rhythms may be listened to from the website or may be downloaded.
