Two volumes (see 22222900 for Volume 2) of 12 new works each (16 works commissioned by the Zeltsman Marimba Festival, plus 8 winners of the ZMF 2008 composition contest) are part of the answer to the shortcomings of the intermediate-level marimba repertoire. The breadth of styles represented is both impressive and intentional; while they are meant to be attainable by and to grow the knowledge of students, their artful diversity is sure to inspire advanced students and professionals.

Both volumes include a foreword by Nancy Zeltsman, short composer biographies, and program and performance notes for each work. The entire collection was premiered and recorded by the 8 faculty members of the Zeltsman Marimba Festival 2009.
