 | (Grade 3 · 2Bar/Euph - 2Tuba) This 17th century French carol emanates from the city of Provence. Torchlight processions on Christmas Eve are a longstanding French tradition. Children dressed as shepherds carry torches or candles as they walked to church for Midnight Mass while singing this and other carols along the way. This grade 3 swing arrangement by Lennie Niehaus would have them dancing in the streets! It features all players with a variety of compositional devices including duets, lots of ensemble writing, and the use of counterpoint. The piece transitions through three different key signatures, giving it a feeling of constant momentum as it builds to a great finish. (Dur: 2:40). |
